Two parks have yet again scooped the prestigious Green Flag awards, putting them amongst the best green spaces in the whole country.

Victoria Park in Ilkeston has been given the honour for a third year running.

Cllr Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for culture and leisure, has welcomed the award: “What a hat trick! We are thrilled to have retained this top honour – and we know our delight and pride is shared by local residents and all those who enjoy this lovely park.”

And Shipley Country Park has maintained its Green Flag award for a sixth consecutive year.

Cllr Andy Botham, Derbyshire County Council’s deputy cabinet member for economy, jobs and transport said he was ‘absolutely delighted’.

“The award recognises and highlights that people in Derbyshire are benefitting from a green space of the very highest quality,” he added.

Flag-raising ceremonies are to be held in both parks.
