Pedestrian killed in crash

A PEDESTRIAN has died after being hit by a car.

Barrie Wakefield of Doncaster Grove, Long Eaton, died at the scene on Saturday when he was struck by the Ford Focus car in the town.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into his death, which happened at the junction of the A6005 Nottingham Road and Norfolk Road at about 10.25pm.

At Derby Coroner’s Court on Monday, traffic collision investigator Pc Colin Parker, from Derbyshire police, said the body of 59-year-old Mr Wakefield had been identified by his cousin at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The inquest was adjourned until a later date pending further tests and inquiries.
