AN ILKESTON pilot has finished his training and is awaiting his first active duties in a Royal Navy squadron.

The Advertiser featured Mark Halford’s story when he started his pilot training in 2008.

The 27-year-old is now a member of the 845 Air Squadron based at RNAS Yeovilton.

His mum, Judith said: “We’re very proud of him, he’s worked really hard.

“The training hasn’t been easy but he’s given it his all and has done really well.”

Mark joined the Royal Navy after completing a degree at the University of Birmingham. The family are now waiting to find out when Mark will be deployed to Afghanistan.
