Planners support care home plan

A PLAN to build a care home on the site of a former Ilkeston pub is to go before the planning committee next week.

Planning officers at Erewash Borough Council have advised councillors to support the plan by Atlantic Midland Securities to build the 66-bed home on the former Bridge Inn in Awsworth Road.

The home is set to create up to 50 new jobs.

Two letters of objection have been sent to the council from residents in Brook Cottages and Awsworth Road, complaining that the two and three-storey development will increase traffic, result in a loss of privacy and impact on wildlife on the canal side site.

The developer already has planning permission to demolish the derelict pub which has stood empty for two years.

Councillors will vote on the plan at a meeting at Ilkeston Town Hall Wednesday.
