Plans since the 1980s - Link plan for viaduct

Kieran Lee (letters last week) would like to see the Bennerley Viaduct brought back into use.

There have been proposals to do just that since the 1980s when local councils and community groups began to put forward ideas about creating walking and cycling routes in the area using former canals and railway lines.

He will be pleased to hear that Sustrans, a charity which promotes sustainable transport, now owns the viaduct and has conducted a feasibility study for its use as a link between existing routes such as the Nutbrook and the Erewash Valley Trails and others further east in Nottinghamshire.
