AFTER last week’s story about Byron Street residents whose maggot-infested bins had not been emptied for more than a week, the council has said it is trying to resolve the problem.
Director of operational services at Erewash Borough Council, Phil Wright asked residents to make sure the narrow road is kept clear.
He said: “The street is narrow and when vehicles and vans are double-parked it is impossible, despite the best efforts of our drivers, for the large refuse vehicles to reach all the properties.
“We regularly have to send the smallest vehicle we have in the fleet back, outside the normal collection day, to endeavour to empty the waste bins. This is extremely problematic and very costly.
“We would again appeal to residents to help us by ensuring the road is as clear as possible on collection day.
“We appreciate in many cases residents are unable to park elsewhere, but we would urge them to please park considerately and keep the highway clear during collection times.”
