POLICE officers in Kirk Hallam have been helping Brownies from the town gain badges.

The Kirk Hallam and Stanton-by-Dale Safer Neighbourhood Team has been giving the girls tips to gain their crime prevention badges.

Officers from the team attended Kirk Hallam Community Hall earlier this month to meet the 1st Kirk Hallam Brownies.

They gave the group all kinds of information, including personal safety, home security, the effects of burglary on victims of crime and stranger danger on the streets.

Pc Louise Stevenson said: “We were very impressed with the knowledge of the children regarding crime prevention; they were very respectful and showed an interest.

“A number of the children recognised us from our visits to their school and had remembered safety advice from previous inputs.

“It also gave us a chance to chat to the children so they know they can trust us and talk to us if they have any problems.”
