Police motion thrown out

LABOUR councillors have raised concerns about the number of police on the streets after cuts are made to Derbyshire Constabulary’s budget.

They proposed a motion that would see leader of the council, Cllr Chris Corbett, write to the Prime Minister about the cuts.

Councillor John Frudd, who represents Kirk Hallam said: “Our area was once plagued with anti-social behaviour until we had a proper neighbourhood team.

“They’ve made a huge difference but I’m afraid these cuts could see all of their hardwork undone.”

But Conservatives threw out the motion branding it ‘scaremongering’. They said they were happy after speaking to the police that residents would not be affected.
