POLICE have secured the dangerous derelict factory in Heanor Road following the Advertiser’s plea to Sort It Out last week.
Graffiti had appeared in windows of the Grade-II listed former Norton’s Plastics factory, raising concerns that it was being broken into by troublemakers.
Ilkeston’s Insp Nick Daines sent officers to secure an open hatch at the 150-year-old building this week.
The Advertiser has spoken to the owner’s son Sim Ghalley who, after inspecting it on Thursday last week, said every strip of metal had been stolen and he had found sleeping bags inside.
The Advertiser now plans to speak with the owner, who has already been given permission to convert the building into flats.
