Poster aims to warn of ‘same sex’ violence

Derbyshire police have launched a campaign to highlight domestic abuse within same sex relationships.

It is hoped that the new poster campaign will highlight violence and abuse within gay relationships. Though most common in women in same sex couples, it can also affect men.

Co-ordinator of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender group, Andy Sudbury, said: “Abuse in same-sex relationships is commonly under reported to the police. In 2013 there were only 15 referrals made to agencies in Derbyshire (excluding Derby City).

“By highlighting this issue we hope that more people will have the confidence to report crimes in same- sex relationships to us.”
