The principal set to lead the new merged academy in Ilkeston has been announced.
Dave Smith, who was named interim principal of Ormiston Ilkeston Academy in January, led an academy in Birmingham out of special measures in 2003 to two consecutive ‘outstanding’ Ofsted inspections, according to Ormiston.
“I am delighted to have been appointed for this role,” said Dave, previously acting vice-principal at Heartlands Academy.
“I have worked with students and staff at both Ormiston academies since January and I’m glad to have the opportunity to continue.
“Parents want the best service and delivery for their child, and I will be working with them to achieve this.
The move has been welcomed by new chair of governors Barry Bainbridge: “This is excellent news. Dave will provide exciting and determined leadership as we all work towards establishing the academy as the school of choice for Ilkeston.”
The academy, formed by the merger of Ormiston Enterprise and Ilkeston academies, looks set to be Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy after a vote by students.
A grey blazer has been chosen for the new uniform.
