A popular Ilkeston pub has received plaudits from top travel website Trip Advisor.

The Durham Ox inn on Durham street, which was renovated and converted to a pub and restaurant just two years ago, has won an award of excellence for the quality of its food and service.

Trip Advisor presented the award following almost 200 postings on its site from satisfied diners .

Proud owners Tony Coyne and Martin Staszewski, who employ 15 local staff, are elated at being the only restaurant in Ilkeston to have ever received this award.

Tony said: We are so proud to have received this award, especially as it was voted for by the people.

“We took a derelict old pub and with hard work and support from the community, we have turned it into a success – that’s a brilliant feeling.

“I think the secret to our success is that we provide good quality ingredients and our meals are made from scratch.”

The property, which dates back to 1781, was once used as the town jail, but the restoration has returned the pub back to its origins and created a quiet, relaxing haven with glowing reviews.
