Ormiston Ilkeston Academy sixth form student Darcie Scholes has scored eight-weeks of work experience at Nottingham’s Paul Smith.
The fashion label got in touch with the Art and Design student after she was recommended by a London designer she had done work experience with.
She secured the internship after attending an interview with portfolio, sketchbook and some of the garments she had made.
Darcie added: “if it wasn’t for the passion drive and enthusiasm of the art and design teachers here at the academy I would never have followed my dreams to specialise in this field.”
Darcie is in her final year at the academy and has secured a space at Nottingham Trent University next September studying Fashion Design.
She has exhibited her work in the King George Gallery at the academy and in an empty shop in Ilkeston as part of the Arts Council-funded reVive programme. Teacher Sarah Griffiths said: “She can look at a piece of fabric and design something from nothing in minutes.”
