PUPILS from two Ilkeston schools have laid crosses in memory of Ilkeston’s servicemen who have given their lives in conflicts over the last 100 years.

At Ilkeston’s Park Cemetery in Larklands, pupils from Chaucer Junior School laid crosses on graves to remember more than 60 servicemen buried there.

Later on Tuesday pupils from Dallimore Primary School placed a cross on the seven graves of men who lost their lives buried at Kirk Hallam All Saints’ churchyard.

Secretary of the Ilkeston branch of the British Legion Ken Foster said: “I must add our thanks to the governors, staff and pupils of Chaucer Junior School, who turn out each year, and to Ladywood Primary and Dallimore schools, who do the honours alternative years, no matter what the weather.
