Pyjama walkers brave rain for new benches in Cotmanhay
PYJAMA and dressing gown clad walkers braved the rain and completed a sponsored stroll on Saturday to raise money for two memory benches.
The event, arranged by Cotmanhay Children's Centre, was held to raise money for the memorials the charity plan to install in the town.
One will be in memory of Rebecca Moss who died after a kidney transplant and another will be in honour of Lance Sergeant Dave Greenhalgh, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year.
There were 26 people who stayed in their sleepwear for the walk but picnics were packed up and eaten inside after a downpour.
Diane Webb, manager at the Cotmanhay Children's Centre said: "The children had a lovely time collecting different coloured stickers for every lap they completed and a Certificate for the last lap.
"The rain did not stop the walkers, they took shelter and completed the course in between the showers."
The centre hope to have raised around 200 but will not know a definite amount until all of the sponsorship money has been collected and paid in.
