Ilkeston Carnival started in 1935 when it took the same parade route it takes today, along Bath Street to the Rutland Rec’.

Erewash Borough Council handed the running of the carnival to the Lions in 1990 and since then all proceeds have been poured back into the community through the charitable work the group does.

The free event regularly attracts more than 2,000 visitors.

The last time it was cancelled was 2006 when the council had failed to get the correct licence in time.
