THE FUTURE of a Derbyshire centre which has dealt with more than 200 victims of sexual assaults in the last year has been secured until March 2014.
The Sexual Assaults Referral Centre, known as Millfield House, was opened in November 2004 as a result of a joint initiative between Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Rape Crisis.
The service is now jointly funded and commissioned by the force, the county’s NHS, Derby City and Derbyshire County Councils.
Det Chf Insp Gary Goacher said: “The SARC is an invaluable asset for the county and victims of sexual offences.”
The SARC in mid-Derbyshire is staffed by Derbyshire Rape Crisis which works independently of the police to give support and counselling to victims.
