I would like to say how grateful I am to Cllr Linda McGraw as the Stanley Ward representative on Erewash Borough Council (EBC) for a £200 grant from the EBC small grants fund.
Memories of Stanley Village Trust (MOSVT) was formed in 1998, and has completed many projects including our village flag pole, an early computer for the school, and maybe better known for the W5795 bomber memorial services annually in July. In 2004 there was the dedication of a war memorial and Lancaster Bomber Flypast over Stanley Playing Field.
The service this year on July 12 also included an organised flyover of Ilkeston Market Place, West Hallam Wells Dressing opening and flypast over Stanley Village of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BoBMF) Dakota.
The administration and logistics (leafleting) the areas affected is costly, and financial assistance such as this, and other support from EBC to enhance local history is greatly appreciated. It is especially poignant that at events such as these we are remembering a war time aircrew who lost their lives in an experimental high altitude capsule; the type of air travel we now take very much for granted.
These grants are a lifeline to small organisations such as MOSVT, village halls, and local organisations working to benefit local people, and sharing as much as possible with the community; as demonstrated with the routing of the Stanley flypast this year for the benefit and pleasure of a wider community.
