STAFF from Derbyshire County Council manned a market stall to encourage people to think about the food they use to prevent waste.
Demonstrations on recipes designed to use up leftovers drew crowds and information on different foods to buy was also handed out.
The stall was set up as the council started a campaign in partnership with Love Food Hate Waste.
Recycling options were also on show for shoppers to see.
Cllr John Allsop, the county council’s cabinet member for technology and recycling, said: “This was a great opportunity for people to see how clever use of food can make the most of the money we have and the food we buy.
“Each month in the UK many families throw away up to £50 worth of food that could have been eaten.”
