STUDENTS at The Kimberley School pretended to be journalists for the day as part of an annual BBC School Report initiative.

Year eight pupils looked at international, national and local news doing everything from interviewing people in Kimberley about crime in the town to ringing the White House press office.

One of the groups was writing a story on Afghanistan, while another was looking into the literacy problems with Ofsted.

Trainee teacher Lucy Strawson said “We sat and looked at newspapers, looked at news online and investigated what all the big stories were.

“They were then split into teams and had to research and carry out their own little projects.

“It gives them a chance to really go for it and they really, really enjoyed it.”

The BBC School Report was carried out by 16 year eight pupils.
