Rescue dogs need homes

AN ANIMAL rescue centre in Awsworth has seen a rise in dogs being abandoned.

Samantha Sanderson, manager at the Babbington Rescue centre said: "We've probably seen a five or ten per cent rise over Christmas and the new year. Most of the animals we're seeing are neglected or cruelty cases.

"We've got a lot of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, people don't realise how much effort and money is needed to care for a dog and a lot we've had in lately just haven't had the vetinary care they need."

Four-month-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Meg, was taken to the rescue

centre by police after a group of youngsters were caught trying to make her fight.

Twelve-year-old Sasha was bought into the centre after her owner died.

Staff at the centre are hoping Meg and the other dogs will find new homes.

If you're interested in rehoming one of Babbington's dogs call the centre on 0115 9324576.
