A Sandiacre restaurant manager has been given a top award for his commitment to apprenticeships.
Matthew Roe, from Stapleford, started his own career as an apprentice and said he is committed to giving the same opportunity to employees at his business La Rock in Bridge Street.
The 23-year-old was named East Midlands City and Guilds Apprenticeship Champion of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards last month,
After the ceremony at Kelham Hall in Newark, he said: “From my own experience I feel my apprenticeship has rounded me into a mature, responsible adult and shaped my professional life.
“I’m delighted to be able to give the same opportunity to others.”
He is currently preparing to undertake a Higher Apprenticeship and has employed eight apprentices in the past five years.
Matthew is now in the running to win the National City & Guilds Apprenticeship Champion of the Year Award which will be decided by a public vote
Voting is open until Friday (October 11).
The top three will then be announced and voting will re-open from October 14 to 18 to decide the ultimate Apprenticeship Champion winner which will be revealed at the UK’s largest national skills and careers event, The Skills Show, at the NEC in Birmingham on November 14.
Organisers say it is now up to Matthew to promote his success in the region, and encourage the East Midland’s public to vote for him though the National Apprenticeship Service website www.apprenticeships.org.uk.
