TWO major restaurant chains are set to open new outlets at Giltbrook Retail Park later this year.
Pizza Express and Nando’s are both hoping to open new restaurants at the site this summer.
The move has been welcomed by local councillor Richard Robinson who has been spearheading the campaign to bring a cinema to the retail park.
“The idea for a cinema first of all did not come from me, it came from the local residents,” added Cllr Robinson.
“It just seems with these outlets coming on board in Giltbrook that a cinema would add to it brilliantly and complement it perfectly.
“The aim is to bring something different to the area and these restaurants all add to that.
“People are always asking ‘why do I have to go to Nottingham, why do I have to go to Derby?’ and this will give them something on their doorstep which means they won’t have to.
“Not only is it an extra facility but it is extra investment, extra interest and extra jobs in the area.”
A Pizza Express spokesman said it was early stages at the moment but they were expecting to start work next month with a view to open the restaurant in early summer.
She added: “We do normally recruit from the local area but it is hard to say how many jobs will be created at the moment.”
