Road re-opens after scooter crash

A SCOOTER rider is in hospital with serious head injuries after a crash in Station Road this afternoon (Monday).

The busy Ilkeston road was closed in both directions after the 24-year-old collided with a lamp post at about 1.25pm but has now been re-opened.

Fire crews worked to clear up petrol which had spilled from the rider’s silver Voyager 125 scooter on to the road surface.

A police spokesman said that the lamp post was lying across the road.

Derbyshire County Council’s highways department removed the lamp post at about 4pm and the road re-opened shortly after

The air ambulance was not needed as the rider was taken by road ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
