Row over Remembrance

THE TIME of the Remembrance Sunday parade in Ilkeston was again argued over by borough councillors when they met last week.

Cllr Tim Moloney asked Erewash Borough Council to move the service from 3pm to 11am.

He said: “I really forget how many times I’ve moved this motion. I want to see the people of Ilkeston get their right to parade at 11am.”

But leader of the council, Cllr Chris Corbett said that members of Ilkeston’s Royal British Legion branch were happy for it to remain with a 3pm service.

Ken Foster, secretary of the branch, said: “The branch said they would prefer an afternoon. But if push comes to shove, whatever the time they will be there, if it was held at midnight, we would still be there.”
