Salvation Army is put on pause

The Salvation Army in Ilkeston has closed.

A spokesman said: “It is with great regret that after consultation and with prayerful consideration, we had to make the difficult decision to pause from our regular activities in Ilkeston, where we have served our community for many years.

“As a church and charity we’re dedicated to caring for people who are vulnerable or in need and we want to ensure we effectively address the needs in our community. This has become increasingly difficult due to the capital improvements required to our building (on Chapel Street) for the purpose of health and safety, limited available local leadership and the need to determine how best to serve the community going forward.

“We have met with our congregation to make certain they have been welcomed into nearby ‘church families’ andare looking to return to our work in this community in the future.”
