A HUGE scale model of the former Ilkeston Town station and train line is on display this weekend in Trowell.

The huge representation of how the line would have looked in the 1930s, complete with surrounding buildings and features, took creators Dave Jones and Dave Jacques four years to make.

The area of the model is from the former Ilkeston Junction station, along where Tesco stands today, to the Ilkeston Town station which stood at the bottom of Bath Street.

It will be on display at Ilkeston Woodside Model Railway Club’s 10th annual show on Sunday. The event at Trowell Parish Hall in Stapleford Road, runs from 10am to 4.30pm and includes layouts of various sizes, gauges and eras, refreshments and free parking.

n Also at the show this weekend will be 15-year-old Marcello Gabrielli, who is hoping to add to the £1,200 he has raised so far for the Jinty 47357 appeal to restore the engine. There will be Railwaymania items on sale to go towards the appeal.
