A FORMER pupil of an Ilkeston school is organising a reunion in memory of an ex-teacher who died this year.

New Zealand-born Thelma Bowron began teaching French at Michael House School in about 1960, when it was still in Heanor Road.

Miss Bowron died aged 100 in January and ex-pupil Heather Flinders, nee Walters, wants to get her old classmates together in remembrance.

“We were lucky to have Miss Bowron for our whole school life, which in my case ended in 1971,” said Heather.

“She knew how to get the most out of each pupil and whatever we did as a class, we knew we would have support and love.”

Heather has provisionally planned the reunion for Miss Bowron’s birthday on June 25.

She added: “A few of us have kept in touch with Miss Bowron until her death and until a few years ago she would send birthday and Christmas cards out. We will miss her.”

Write to Heather at 17 Richmond Avenue, Sandiacre, NG10 5GY or call 0115 854 8373 for more details.
