Barlborough Primary School pupils studied rocket launching and astronaut training as part of National Science and Engineering Week.

The week’s theme was Explore the Future and culminated with the arrival of a spacesuit, as worn by Russian astronauts aboard the Soyuz spacecraft.

The suit was modelled by learning mentor Melanie Edger, pictured with Chloe Oliver and Louis Wright.

Yvonne Wright, who works for the Education Improvement Service at Derbyshire County Council, said: “The space industry is growing and we need to educate young people about the possible job opportunities available and raise aspirations.”

The space suit is heading to other schools in Derbyshire this month including Dunston Primary, Holme Hall Primary and Crich Junior.
