ALMOST exactly a year to the day since a huge blaze ripped through a Sandiacare rail track firm, another fire has broken out on the site.
Firefighters from Ilkeston and Long Eaton stations spent hours tackling a blaze at the Progress Rail site in Bradley Street – part of Balfour Beatty Rail Track Systems – from about 6am on Monday.
On Monday August 9 last year, six fire crews, including Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Stapleford were called out after a massive blaze ripped through a foundry at the same firm’s premises.
Like the blaze last year, the Advertiser understands no one was injured in this week’s fire.
It is not thought the fire, which a fire service spokesman said started in an electricity substation, was started deliberately.
The East Midlands electricity board has been informed.
