TRADERS in Ilkeston are being encouraged to sign up to the town centre Shopwatch scheme.
Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team has been working with Erewash Community Safety Partnership to get businesses on board. Shops would usually pay a monthly rental fee for the radios but the Community Safety Partnership have paid for six radios to boost the scheme.
So far Currys, McDonalds, Max Spielman and Harpur and Finch have taken up the opportunity.
Pcso Chris Hart from Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Each shop that registers receives a radio that keeps them in instant contact with police, other shops and neighbourhood wardens.
“This is a quick and easy way of passing information to assist with shop lifters being targeted.
“The scheme is particularly helpful during the Christmas period as reports of shop lifting increase.”
Any stores that are interested in registering on the scheme should contact PCSO Chris Hart on the Derbyshire police non-emergency number 101.
