A TEAM of soldiers cycled 6,000km – the equivalent of riding from Nottingham to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan – to raise cash for their injured colleagues.
The soldiers from 73 Engineer Regiment (V) Royal Engineers were on exercise bikes at five Tesco stores including Ilkeston and Long Eaton to complete the challenge over six days.
The team of ten riders had to cover 100km each per day, with five on a bike then resting for an hour and swapping over.
Warrant Officer Steve March RE, said: “It has been hard work but people have shown us so much support and have been really generous.
“ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is such a worthwhile cause, we know how important the work they do is and that’s what has kept us all going.”
As the Advertiser went to press a final total was still being counted but the fund stood at more than £15,000.
