Some do prefer other services

Sir,

It was with interest I read Councillor Corbett’s letter this morning regarding the Remembrance day parade. Most of what he stated was correct in the fact that some of your readers wish to attend other places in the morning to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

He himself wishes to attend Long Eaton at that time, for that reason some of the Royal British Legion members prefer the 3pm service in Ilkeston. Some like myself have no preference so long as we can pay our respects to the fallen.

What he fails to say again, is that this civic service and parade is organised solely by the Erewash council. I repeat once more the RBL, along with other parties, are there by invitation, and as reported in the paper the same day, if the event was to take place at midnight the RBL would be on parade and would willingly march at the rear if asked. Councillor Corbett knows well that if power moved to the other party the event would be in the morning.

Please councillor do not hide behind the RBL, you and your colleagues want a PM parade in Ilkeston, the opposition wish for an AM time, the RBL will be on parade whatever time, come rain or shine.

This has become a political problem which the RBL do not wish to be part of. I believe most of the branch will agree with my comments, if not I will get a roasting at our next meeting.

Ken Foster
