BUDDING scientists at a Sandiacre school have been listening to a Russian professor ahead of a trip they will soon embark on to the Russia Space City in Korolev.

Prof Alecsander Martynov, who is Head of Foreign Relations at the Space City, visited Friesland School to deliver a lecture on Space Exploration and the planned Manned Mission to Mars to the school’s Gifted and Talented Scientists group.

In July some of these year 10, 11 and 12 students will travel to Korolev to undertake science master classes and take in the famous tourist sights in the Russian capital Moscow – including a visit to the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet.

Students who are successful will then represent the UK in the Space Olympics in Russia in 2012.
