DERBY arts centre Quad will be hosting two special events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day for 2012.
A Survivor Speakers’ Evening will take place on Thursday, January 26, from 7pm. This evening of words, music and dance will commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 with the theme Speak Up, Speak Out. An annual event, this year’s guest speaker is distinguished Holocaust survivor Simon Winston from the Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre, where he has been lecturing for the past 13 years.
The event will also feature performances from the Association of Ukrainians (Derby Branch), Derby Gypsy Liaison Group, Derby Jewish Community and Bosnia-Herzegovina Community Association. Booking is essential for this free event.
On Friday, January 26, Quad will be screening Into The Arms Of Strangers: Stories Of The Kinder Transport (PG) at 9.30am. This Oscar winning documentary tells of the extraordinary rescue operation that brought 10,000 children from German-held lands to Great Britain in the months prior to World War II.
This incredibly moving film will be followed by a special Q&A by Steven Mendelsson, a former member of the Kindertransport, who will talk about his experiences. Booking is essential for this free event. To reserve places for these events, please call Quad’s box office on 01332 290606.
