AN ILKESTON singer-songwriter has teamed up with a town smoothie bar in a bid to expose some of Ilkeston’s talented young musicians.

After performing a charity gig at U Choose in August, Ethen Ashley Eden said he was inspired to create the Sound Stage there to give a platform to showcase the town’s finest.

He said: “There’s no youth culture in Ilkeston – you look at the bigger cities and think, ‘why isn’t that happening here?’

“It would be wonderful to get someone from Ilkeston into the charts.

“Hopefully this will gather momentum and we can produce some real homegrown talent.”

Paul Opiah, owner of the South Street smoothie bar, has been busy building the stage. He said: “I just want to help Ilkeston children who want to sing, play the guitar, or play the piano.”

The first gig is on November 11 and features 15-year-old Alice-Louise, who will perform alongside Ethen. Search for Sound Stage on Facebook for details of the monthly shows.
