Stand up for our school

As one of the Governors at Ormiston Enterprise Academy, I, like many others, am concerned over the consultation process regarding the proposed merger of the two Ormiston Schools in Ilkeston which will result in a school closure and the former Bennerley site in Cotmanhay being the most vulnerable.

The consultation accessed electronically asks one main question, “In your opinion what are the positive aspects of the proposed merger?” What a loaded question.

Where is the question “What are the disadvantages of the this merger”, particularly for those in the Cotmanhay area who will be most affected.

Once again we see this organisation, Ormiston, slanting everything towards the Cotmanhay closure and transferring the students and also importantly the Cotmanhay award of £7.4m to another of their academies.

All the Academy Governors who are local to the Cotmanhay area have consistently voted against these proposals as they know the affect this will have.

Ormiston came to Cotmanhay with all their fine words, promises and how they would make this school a success.

All I and others are saying is: “Show you were honest with your promises to the school and carry out the commitment you gave to students and the community.”

This was the reason you were given this responsibility. Get on with the job you were chosen for and don’t hide behind the excuse of falling numbers of students as you were made well aware of this situation some three years ago.

This fight by the community must continue. Reply to Ormiston Consultation on www.OIAOEA.co.uk and also Erewash MP, Jessica Lee at Jessica.leemp@parliament.uk who is also involved.
