Businesses in South Street are hoping to hold street fairs every Saturday of the school holidays starting this weekend in a bid to boost trade.
The South Street Shopping Centre Fest runs from 9am to about 3pm and features a face painting competition and a hula-hooping contest.
The Co-op department store, which closed last week, has given firms canopies for stalls and there will be music courtesy of James Morley at Hearts Cafe.
The event has been organised by South Street trader and Chamber of Trade chairman Sharon Flint.
“It’s all about everyone coming together to making the street lovely for the day,” she said.
