Nationwide on Bath Street has become the latest local business to support the
‘Tiser’s Pennies For Our Heroes campaign.
The building society has offered to collect jam jars full of change that will then be used to pay for a tree in memory of the town’s fallen heroes.
The Advertiser announced its latest community campaign a couple of weeks ago and has been receiving donations and messages of support ever since.
We want readers to collect small change in jam jars and when they are full hand them over at one of our collection point, which so far include the ‘Tiser office on Heanor Road, Nationwide and Ilkeston Town Hall.
Nationwide’s branch manager Karen Hill said: “When the Advertiser asked us to support their latest campaign we jumped at the chance.
“After helping out in the run up to Christmas with the food bank campaign we couldn’t wait to get on board again.
“Nationwide are always keen to back community projects and this is a great way to get involved with a fantastic cause and pay tribute to our brave war dead.”
Meanwhile donations have been handed over to counter staff at Ilkeston Town Hall.
Emma Kent, customer services team leader, said: “We’ve already collected more than £35 which might not sound a lot but when it is in small change it all stacks up.
“It just proves that a little does go a long way.
“People have been really keen to get involved and there’s been a lot of support already for this excellent scheme.
“We’re looking forward to collect even more as people’s jars fill up.”
