AN ILKESTON student has signed up for a charity skydive following her mum’s suddden death in December.

Vicky Bishton, 22, decided to take the daring jump after her mum, Christine Bishton, 55, died as a result of a heart condition just before Christmas.

She said: “It’s been so hard since mum died but I just want to do something to raise awareness and let people know that heart problems can kill at any age. “My mum was only 55 when she died and she was fine in the days before she died, I’d sat chatting with her about Christmas, it would have been her first as a grandma and she was so excited about it.”

Christine, who worked at nursing homes across the town before becoming a home help, died as a result of blocked arteries. In the run up to her death her only symptoms had been an aching arm and what she thought was indigestion.

Vicky said: “Mum was an amzing woman, always helping others.

“She went on holiday to Kenya one year andpacked all sorts in her case for poor people over there. She was so kind.

“We’ve all really struggled since she died. We’re still heartbroken and it hasn’t really sunk in.”

Vicky, supported by her fiancé, dad, sister and nephew, will jump from 13,000 feet high on June 8, to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation.

SHe added: “I am really nervous and can’t believe I’m going to do it but it’s for such a good cause and I know my mum would be proud.”
