WITH the Robins having to settle for a play-off spot following Grantham Town’s victory against Quorn which secured their promotion as title winners, we need to make sure we get behind our side.
Hopefully they will go on and secure second spot with two games of the season left which will give them home advantage through the play-offs.
Promotion for Ilkeston would see them renew their rivalry with bitter local enemies Eastwood Town after the Badgers were relegated from the Blue Square Bet North.
Three years ago if you said Eastwood and Ilkeston would be doing battle in the Evo-Stik Premier then many people would have thought you were mad as both clubs had seemingly much loftier ambitions.
But the reality of non-league football and the finincial strains it creates is very different from that.
Even the most hardline Robins supporter should have some sympathy for Eastwood fans as their seemingly penniless club seems to be falling apart at the seams. However, as Eastwood are on a downward spiral, Ilkeston seem to be a club on the up.
The new owners of Ilkeston FC, SR Education have come in and added some real stability to the set up at the New Manor Ground.
All in all, it has been a successful first season for them, but the job is still only half done. The efforts of the young players, manager Kevin Wilson for his loyalty to Ilkeston, and the chairman for his work behind the scenes deserve to be rewarded with promotion.
So get down there and show the team the town is behind them.
These youngsters have brought fresh pride to Ilkeston FC and here at the Advertiser we will be backing them to get the job finished in the play-offs.
