Youngsters will benefit from a new swim academy programme that will be launched by Erewash Borough Council this month.

Erewash Swim Academy will launch on March 30 after the council agreed a two-year partnership with the national Swimming Teachers Association Academy (STA).

The move means an internationally-recognised teaching system introduced into swimming lessons at Long Eaton’s West Park Leisure Centre and Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston.

Victoria Park Leisure Centre launched its event on Tuesday and West Park Leisure Centre’s event will be on Saturday.

As well as providing top quality teaching for youngsters, the academy will also expand the pool programme to offer aquatic sessions for older learners and adults.

Anyone enrolling for the programme will receive a 16-page success tracker, to track their child’s progress.

Councillor Mike Wallis, lead member for culture and leisure, said: “We are very proud to announce that we have gained this academy status with STA. It is a clear recognition of the high calibre of our teaching programmes here in Erewash.”
