Swine flu hits Ilkeston schools

Four primary schools and a secondary school in Ilkeston are the latest to be hit by the swine flu pandemic.

On a list of school in the county released by Derbyshire County Council, Cotmanhay Infant School, Field House Infant School, Chaucer Infant School and Cloudside Junior School in Sandiacre have all been affected by the virus.

Letters were sent home to parents at Chaucer Infant School on Cantelupe Road when two parents contracted the virus. No children at the school have currently been affected.

At Cloudside Junior School on Stanton Road in Sandiacre a small number of parents have reported suspected cases of swine flu.

St John Horton Secondary School in Ilkeston has also been affected. The school has a small amount of students at the school with confirmed swine flu.

They are amongst around 50 schools in Derbyshire that have seen pupils come down with the illness, including Wilsthorpe Secondary School in Long Eaton.

A county council spokesperson said: "All schools have received advice from the council and the Health Protection Agency. This has included the symptoms of swine flu and letters to send to parents in the event of child or staff member being diagnosed with swine flu.

"Schools are being advised to keep a close watch on pupils and will ask parents/carers to collect children as soon as possible if they display any of the symptoms."
