A growing adult and youth learning organisation has strengthened its presence in the East Midlands with the acquisition of a Ripley firm.

TBG Learning, which is part of the Rehab Group and has 21 learning centres across England and Wales, has acquired Acorn Training Consultants Ltd.

Acorn Training Consultants was established by Viv Palfreyman and Jim Ellsey in 1996 with four staff and is now around 50-strong at its centre at Knightsbridge Place on Nottingham Road.

The company moved into the 14,500 sq ft centre in 2009, and is now used by close to 200 learners every week.

Viv said: “I’m pleased to be handing over the business to TBG Learning which shares very similar values and practices to Acorn. Having launched as a small team in Alfreton we’ve grown considerably and offer a wide range of training and development opportunities to people of all ages across Ripley and the Amber Valley area, along with schools across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Acorn will be in good hands as part of the TBG Learning and the Rehab Group network and I’m looking forward to assisting the management team over the next few months in any way I can.”

Andrew Conlan-Trant, head of TBG Learning, said: “Acorn Training is a high-quality training provider which has established a strong reputation over many years. The business has built up connections across a wide area and the acquisition supports our ambition to help more and more people across Derbyshire and the East Midlands, and also learn from the great model that Acorn has developed. Over the coming months we’ll be working closely with Viv to learn from Acorn’s practices, integrate our support functions into the business and continue to grow the number of services and customers served by the centre.”
