A TEENAGER took it upon himself to arrange a charity fun day to raise cash for cancer charities after members of his family were diagnosed with the disease.

Kieran Reynolds, 15, decided to get fundraising after seeing aunties and uncles battle cancer.

With help from his mum Jeanette, sister Kirsty and other members of his family he hired out Kirk Hallam Social Club on Saturday and set about getting stalls manned and local businesses to offer their services to help raise money for Cancer Research.

Kieran said: “We had a few family members diagnosed with cancer and that was why I wanted to organise the fun day.

“It went really well on the day and all the money raised will go to a really good charity.”

His mum, Jeanette said: “I was really pleased for him when he decided to do it.

“I thought it was a great idea and we all said we’d help him out.

“There’s been people in the family who have had cancer so it was that which made him say he was going to raise some money.

“I think seeing what it can do to people made him want to do something and he thought of this.”

The fun day which had stalls including a raffle, tombola and refreshments also saw beauticians and hair stylists on hand to offer makeovers.

The event raised just under £400 for charity.

Following on from his success, Kieran is now planning a sponsored event in the summer to raise even more cash.
