Amy Godsmark is a fitness instructor who runs her own business in Ilkeston. Since Amy qualified as an Exercise to Music Instructor in 2007, she has set up some very successful classes in the area, ranging from aerobics, dance, body toning and pilates. She now focuses on pilates.

Where were you born and

bred and where do you live now ?

I was born in Belper and I

moved to Ilkeston when I was six in 1990 and lived here ever

since.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Keeping fit, walking my Jack Russell ‘Raz’, horse riding and spending time with family and friends.

What is your favourite film and why?

Seabiscuit – love a good horsey film!

What is your biggest achievement in life?

Running my own fitness business since 2007, teaching pilates, fitsteps, fitness and dance. My work is very rewarding and I’ve met some lovely people along the way, who have now become great friends.

What are your hopes for the future of this area?

Continued ‘community feel’ and no houses built on the ‘brick-yard’ (off Derby Road, near the Nutbrook Trail). We need the countryside left as it is to encourage people to get out there and use it.

What is your favourite place to eat in Ilkeston ?

The Durham Ox.

Where is your favourite local place to go on a day trip? Bakewell or Chatsworth or simply a wander round Shipley Park, stopping at the Nutbrook Coffee Shop – I love it there.

What is your idea of a perfect Saturday night?

Cosy night in with my husband (and dog!), watching a film with a nice meal.

If you could change anything in Ilkeston what would it be ?

More people in full-time employment and more people supporting local businesses.

What will your epitaph say?

Amy G! Happy, fun to be around (except when hungry!)
