Top bands to raise funds for carnival
Top bands will be joining forces for a live showcase – to help raise funds for a town celebration.
Five of the Dales' brightest acts will be performing in Wirksworth to raise money for the annual carnival.
Organised by Peak Promotion, a company led by former Anthony Gell School students Steven Murphy and James Rice, the event will see young rock, indie and acoustic musicians take to the stage at The Red Lion, on Sunday May 24.
Steven said: "We've chosen the five most popular bands in the Derbyshire Dales and are hoping to draw a big crowd with all the proceeds going towards the Wirksworth Carnival.
"We feel it's important as a local business to help out the Wirksworth Carnival and to keep it going for many years to come."
Wirksworth's old school rockers Serotonin, who won last year's Y Not Festival's Battle of the Bands Competition, will be heading the line-up, as well as Matlock and Wirksworth-based band Apollo Creed, playing a mix of legendary covers and original rock tunes, and indie punk band Long Grass, influenced by bands such as Joy Division and The Rifles.
Also on the bill is former Derbyshire young band of the year SKM (formerly Some Kinda Mushroom) and acoustic singer and Ashleyhay festival hit, May KB.
Steven added: "The last time we did a Wirksworth Carnival Showcase we had over 160 people in The Red Lion, which shows how successful these gigs can be."
The gig will kick off at 7pm. Entry is 2.
