THE OWNER of an Ilkeston engineering firm with national defence contracts ploughed cash into a company owned by Adam Werrity, self-styled adviser to former defence secretary Liam Fox, according to a national newspaper.
The Daily Mail reported that Jon Moulton bought Gardner UK in Cotmanhay Road for £60m in February 2010, and then gave Mr Werrity’s firm Pargav £35,000 eight months later.
The article said the donation ‘happened to coincide’ with the Government conducting a review setting out the future shape of the Armed Forces.
It said, while there is no suggestion of any impropriety, the move may have ‘raised eyebrows among defence sources’.
But chairman of Gardner Nick Sanders told the paper: “Jon is a person of the highest integrity ... there is absolutely no influence being brought to bear by Jon at Gardner in relation to any defence contracts.”
