A man found in the canal at Sandiacre on Wednesday has been named by police as Michael Hawksley.
An inquest, which opened into the 54-year-old’s death this morning heard that he was found by a member of the public at abuot 8.55am in the water off Lock Lane.
Derby Coroners Court was told Mr Hawksley lived alone in Frederick Avenue, Stapleford, and was a former frame maker, born in Nottingham.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances.
The inquest was adjourned pending further inquiries into his death.
