Two-time Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington made a star appearance at Cloudside Junior School in Sandiacre to talk to the children about the benefits of swimming.
The now retired Mansfield swimmer, who won two bronze medals at London 2012 and two golds in Beijing in 2008, answered questions from youngsters and emphasised the importance of learning to swim.
Head teacher Lydia Lastowiecki said: “The reason for Rebecca’s visit was to inspire and motivate the children. She was saying that more than half of children aged between seven and 11 can’t swim.”
Rebecca answered questions that the children has prepared for her and observed a swimming lesson.
Mrs Lastowiecki added: “She was also saying that swimming is an important life skill and one that can save your life.
“The children asked why she retired and whether she would make a comeback. They enjoyed the visit and have asked if they can have Usain Bolt do a talk at the school.”
